Washburn have been making the Idol Series since the 90's, and the WI64 'distressed' version has been reintroduced due to big demand. It's come back to many rave reviews from the music press across the world.
A great player, lovely fingerboard, great looks and great tones thanks to Washburns VCC system.
The WI64's headstock is quite small, with a nice symetrical crown shape, and white 'Washburn' logo and crown inlay. Finished in matt black to the front and rear, the signs of wear and tear are already aparant with bare wood showing on all the corners.
The Grover machine heads are aged superby, as is all of the hardware on the guitar, with a dirty, tarmished, pitted, used and abused look. Absolutely great. The 18:1 gear tuners also feature the Buzz Feiten tuning system, giving unrivaled tuning accuracy and stability.
The metal truss rod also has the same dirty pewter look, and shows the model number.
The neck has a matt black finish all over, no wear and tear either to the neck or fretboard. The Rosewood fingerboard in unbound, with lovely fretwork and a super smooth fretboard, making the guitar a joy to play.
The neck is set, and joins the body at the 20th fret on the treble side, this lower cutaway has a bit of extra chamfering, giving improved access to all 22 frets. The upper horn has a matching aged strapbutton on the tip.
The body is a slab of Mahogany, with plenty of chamfering around the sides to the front and back, and this is where we have some more bare wood showing. The pickguard is 3 ply black and white and gives a nice look to the front of the guitar.
The pickups, tune-o-matic bridge and stop tailpiece are all in the same matching dirty look, and these are the real feature of this great guitar, they just look great! And the don't sound half bad either, both pickups have loads of power, and this, coupled with Washburns 'Voice Contour Control', VCC, gives an amazing array of sounds. The tone controls for both pickups go from bright and jangly single coil, to dark and moody humbucker, and everything in between. It really is an excellent system, hats of to Washburn for inventing it.
A superb looking guitar, with planty of scope for more distessing to your choice around the body, great pickups and a vast tonal range that will suit every style of music, this is one hell of a guitar. Make sure you get your today!
