Body: Maple, Spruce top, florentie cutaway Neck: Maple - Set Fingerboard: Ebony, block inlays, 43mm nut Frets: 22, 24.75" scale Tuners: Chrome Bridge: Rosewood Pickups: 2 * humbuckers Hardware: Chrome Controls: 2 x Volume 2 x Tone 3-Way Selector
Hollowbody guitars are lighter and more resonant than their solid body counter parts. This gives a somewhat mellower tone to the guitar making it well suited to Jazz.
The Washburn J3 uses a rosewood bridge with a Washburn jazz tailpiece, and a maple body & top. Block inlays adorn the fully bound rosewood fretboard.
The headstock is very shapely, in gloss black to the front and rear, with a lighter sunburst effect to the sides. The front has the familiar Washburn logo, and a diamond crown, both in white. The 3-a-side tuners are Chrome Grover Rotomatics.
The slim feeling neck is finished in a heavy gloss, with a sunburst effect, giving a very bright, golden hue. The Ebony fingerboard is fully bound in cream plastic, with large square Abolone inlays. It feels pretty good too, with nice fretwork, and a good tight grain to the Ebony, much nicer than Rosewood.
The Maple neck joins the body at the 14th fret on the bass side, and the 17th on the treble side. The back of the heel join has a chrome straphook.
The J3 has a single Florentine cutaway, rising to a sharp point, giving a very grand look. This also gives excellent access to the upper frets.
The deep body, 90mm, is fully bound to the front and back in 5 play black and cream plastic, and the 2 'f' holes are also bount in cream. The body has a lovely Sunburst finish that really shows off the tight grain of the Maple.
The back and sides of the body are also finished in Sunburst, no cost cutting here! With a large 5 ply black scratchplate, 2 Amber tone and volume controls and Chrome humbuckers, this guitar is a pretty faithfull Jazzer.
The Rosewood bridge can be fully adusted, up/down and back/forward for intonation adjustments. A large Chrome tailpiece finished off the front, a large 'W' holds the 6 strings in place, this is screwed to the botton edge of the guitar, and also houses the strap button.
As you'd expect from a deep bodied Maple Jazzer, this guitar gives a subtle throaty sound, plenty of volume and clarity, grat not just for Jazz but modern power pop and blues/rock as well.
A top value, big bodied Jazz guitar with plenty to offer, and at this price, definately worth a punt if you want something different to a 335 style instrument.
