Classic double cutaway rock looks with a bit of extra attitude from ESP combine to give you the MH-250. With a superb quilted Maple top, angular headstock and hot pickups, this guitar is a great allrounder, with loads of versatility on offer.
The sharp, pointed headstock has a quilted front, matching the guitars body, with the 'ltd' logo shining out in large white and silver block capitals. The ESP branded tuners are arranged 6 in line, and in cool black chrome, they look as good as they perform.
The headstock is fully bound in cream plastic, the rear is gloss black with the serial numbers and some picture telling you not to put the guitar in a dustbin.
The back of the Maple neck is finished in a dark gloss brown, the 24 fret Rosewood fingerboard is also fully bound in cream, and the frets are superbly finished. It has to be said, the fretboards on these LTD guitars are really good, especially considering these are ESP's entry level guitars!
The position markers are small blocks, shoved to the bass side, except for the 12th fret, which is a large abolone block marker, displaying the guitars model number.
The neck is thru-body, joining at the 19th on the bass side, with the deeper treble cutaway joining at the 22nd - no problem with upper access here - the lower cut has a bit of extra chamfering, aiding this access.
Looking at the back of the body, you can see the lighter colour of the Maple neck running in a band all the way down, with the darker Agathis to either side. Finished in a dark gloss varnish, the heavy body feels solid and gives great resonance when played. The upper bout is heavily chamfered, and really sits in your body comfortably when played standing or sitting.
The front of the guitar features a fully bound quilted Maple top, with a dark Sunburst finish giving a very stylish look. The ESP 301 pickups, which look very like the EMG's used on their more expensive models, have a plain matt black plastic cover and black surrounds. Very powerful they are too, with plenty of scope for bright jingle jangle, thanks partly to the coil tap, and plenty of grunt on your distortion channel.
The bridge, volume and tone controls are all in matching black chrome. With a string thru body tail giving extra resonance, this guitar really gives you plenty back, you can feel all the vibrations as you play and acoustically, the guitar plays really loud!
There may be a lot lot of similar guitars to this on the marker, but for this price, you get a great brand name, qilted Maple top, neck-thru-body and powerful pickups, a great playing guitar worth a place in your collection.
