If you're after a proper Metal bass guitar, look no further than the Deam Metalman Demonator. With red Sawblade position markers, skull control knobs, a radical body shape and 2 massive double coil pickups, this guitar is designed for metal mayhem.
The Headstock and Neck are Maple with a plain satin finish to the back. The front of the large, V shaped headstock has a gloss black paint job, with the Dean 'Wings' logo in silver. The 2-a-side machine heads are finished in gloss black, and hold pitch without any problems.
The Maple neck has a satin finish to the back, nice a smooth and great on swaety nights of practice. The Rosewood fingerboard is unbound, with 22 large frets and a decent, dark grain. The fretwork is excellent, at a good height, nicely polished and neatly rounded off at the edges. The fretboard markers are the first real talking point, shiny red 'sawblades' that get smaller towards the body, and you get a free second one at the 12th for no extra cost.
The action is nice and low on this model, fully set up by Dean in the UK prior to dispatch, it measures about 3mm the 12th fret.
The neck is bolted on with 4 recessed black screws. The offset body joins the neck at the 20th fret on the bass side and the 18th on the treble side. It's difficult to describe the body shape, definately a Thunderbird style on the lower half, and just a wild double cutaway on the upper half. Anyway, access to the upper frets is a little limited, not that that really matters on a bass so much.
The body is Basswood, and is fairly heavy. Finished in a gloss black, with a raised centre section, again Thunderbirdesque. There is a bit of chamfering on the upper bout of the back, giving a nicer playing position.
The 2 pickups are humbuckers, in the Music Man style, and with active circuitry, these give a really great sound, very versatile and good for slap funk style right through to heavy and dark rock rhythms. Should be good for pretty much any musical style.
The bridge is black with 4 individually adjustable saddles. The output jack is on the lower side of the body, near the controls, and the battery pack is on the rear of the body in the centre.
Dean have rounded the Demonator off with 2 metal skull control knobs, each with evil looking red gemstone eyes shining out. These control volume, tone and pickup blend.
A good quality, great looking and great sounding metal bass guitar from Dean. Very good value.
