Peavey's Valve King Royal 8 is a Class A, all tube electric guitar amplifier. And it sounds absolutely cracking.
There really isn't very much to it, just 5 watts of power, an 8" speaker, gain, tone and volume controls, but this is all you need in a compact tube amp for some seriously dirty sounds!
The Royal 8 weighs 9kg, and measures 336mm high, 406mm wide and 210mm deep, so it's perfect for the bedroom or anywhere in the house. It's got a quality wooden case, all covered in thick black vinyl, with a black and white cloth grill and large Peavey logo on the front.
The rear is open, allowing you to see the speaker, and the 2 tubes.
The controls are pretty straight forward, 2 inputs, the first is a high gain input for most electric guitars, number 2 is a lower gain input for high output guitars, so you don't overdrive the whole thing.
The Gain control adjusts the input volume level, which when used with the volume control sets your desired pre-amp distortion.
This is great fun, and by playing with these, and your master tone control, you can get a seriously good range of dirty sounds, from a thick clean sound, to blues, punk, metal and everything inbetween. A really good sounding amp and plenty loud enough, so don't let the low wattage put you off!
Also includes a headphone socket, and that's just about it. You don't need anything else, digital effects etc, a decent tube amp gives excellent old school sounds, and for a home practive amp, this is going to be as good as you'll find.
