With a massive 50 watts of bass amplification, and a 15" Custom-Voiced speaker, the Peavey MAX 115 offers remarkable value at just £199 for a giggable bass amp.
This big version of the MAX features Peaveys TransTube circuitry for a vintage tube bass amp sound, a 4 band EQ, selectable EQ presets, MP3/CD input, a Post-EQ EFX loop, and DDT speaker protection circuit.
So, the MAX 115 is a big amp, weighing 26kg, it's 613mm high, 538mm wide and 334mm deep. It's all finished in a black, vinyl covering, with a decent wooden casing.
Notice also the 2 Hypervents at the bottom of the amp, aiding the tonal range significantly.
Looking at the controls, the Gain dial sets the preamp input gain, then the Voicing switch offers several EQ and TransTube gain variations which essentially offers you several amps in one, each with distinct tonal characteristics -
Modern - based on 'West Coast' EQ voicing with no tube emulation
Vintage - Based on Peavey TransTube front-end with a vintage tube bass voicing
MAX - Based on classic Peavey EQ voicing with no tube simulation

The MAX 115 has a 4 band active EQ with independant cut and boost to shape the tone further, you get low, mid and high, and 'shift', which sets the frequency at which the mid control cuts or boosts.
Then you get the post-EQ EFX loop, with the send socket doubling up as the MP3/CD input, a 1/4" headphone socket, and master volume control.
A great sounding amp, loads of power and volume, with a good, clear sound. The 4 band EQ and Voicing switch lets you really define the sound you're looking for, and at this price, it is some serious kit!
