The Edge 1 is a quality entry level bass guitar from Dean, featuring a 24 fret Rosewood fingerboard, Soapbar pickups and a Basswood body.
An easy playing bass with a slim neck, decent pickups and versatile sound, the Edge 1 belies its bargain basement price!
The headstock is slim, tapering inwards on 3 edges, with the Dean logo on the gloss black front in silver, and their Wings logo in the truss rod cover. The 2 rows of Chrome machine heads are slightly offset, giving more tension to the 2 bass strings.
The rear of the headstock is plain satin Maple, with a serial number, and the 4 unbranded tuners, which work very well at keeping the Edge in tune.
The long neck is slim, with a rounded C profile, giving a very comfortable handful of satin Maple. The 24 fret Rosewood fingerboard is unbound, with attractive Abolone position markers, decent fretwork and a nice smooth, polished surface.
The neck is bolted onto the Basswood body, the joint has 4 recessed screws, joining at the 19th fret on the bass side, and 20th on the treble, the deep cutaway here gives good access to all 24 frets, 2 full octaves of bass tones.
The body itself is unbound, with nice smooth, rounded corners and a huge top horn helping to balance the whole guitar out whilst being played. 2 finishes are currently available, solid gloss black, and thru red. Also, a left handed version, in black only.
The front of the guitar has 2 large, black soapbar style single coil pickups. These are pretty responsive and versatile enough to give a broad range of bass tones, from soul and funk to rock, blues and jazz, the Edge 1 should be able to cover it for you.
The bridge is finished in shiney Chrome, with 4 saddles, adjustable for string height and intonation. There are 3 Chrome control knobs, a master volume, master tone and pickup blend.
A classic modern bass guitar shape, here in an entry level price range from Dean, with not many frills, but more than enough to satisfy bassists on a tight budget. Decent sounds, good playability and modern looks.
