Top - Solid Sitka Spruce Body - Rosewood Neck - Mahogany Binding - Maple and Herringbone Fingerboard - Rosewood, green abalone markers, Maple bound Bridge - Rosewood, Bone saddle Machines - Gold Kluson style with Butterbean buttons Pickup - B-Band A3 EQ
From Tanglewoods brand new 'Rosewood Reserve Range', the TRP73 is a small bodied Parlour guitar, based on their extremely popular TW73 Sundance Pro guitar.
With a slotted Classical style headstock, solid Sitka Spruce top, all Maple binding and a beautiful Vintage Sunburst finish, this is a cracking guitar.
The headstock is a slotted style, much the fashion on Parlour guitars these days, taking weight away of course. The face has a Rosewood veneer, bound in a lighter Maple, with a gloss finish and Tanglewoods 'T' logo in sparkling Green Abalone.
The rear of the headstock has a satin finish, with Tanglewoods name printed in gold, and 2 rows of 3 individual gold Kluson style Machine heads, with small buttons. They work very well, holding pitch very accurately.
The Mahogany neck is slim, a fairly rounded C profile, with a satin finish. Nut width is 43mm, going to 52mm at the 12th, where action is about 3-4mm across the board.
The fingerboard is Rosewood, fully bound up both sides in Maple, with excellent quality frets, it's all polished up nicely to make a nice playing guitar.
The neck joins the Rosewood body at the 12th fret, traditional on these instruments, so no high end access available here. The heel joint around the back has a nice Maple cap, and the Maple binding continues around the back edges, and also through the back centre strip.
The Rosewood body is dark, very dark, with the grain only really visible in the right light. No bad thing, it gives the guitar a very smart appearance.
The top of the TRP73 is solid Sitka Spruce, here with a beautiful Vintage Sunburst finish. The edges are also Maple bound, and on the top we also have a very nice thin line of wooden mosaic Herringbone binding. Very classy.
The top also features a simple Rosewood soundhole rosette, Rosewood bridge, with a bone compensating saddle and black bridge pins.
The electrics are provided by a top quality B Band A3 equaliser, featuring a 3 band EQ, presence and volume rotaries.
So, how does it sound? It's got quite a deep voice with plenty of volume and sustain. Good clarity across the range and plenty of ringing highs, with an underlying warmth and plenty of depth. A versatile all rounder with a very natural sounding EQ unit.
A great addition to Tanglewood ever expanding acoustic guitar range, the TRP73 is a wonderful smaller bodied acoustic with lovely tones, quality materials and workmanship and beautiful looks.
