This really is a beautiful guitar. It is nicely shaped and balanced for extra comfort, and the solid Engelmann Spruce top ensures a sweet, warm sound.
Rosewood back and sides and an Abalone inlay complete the package, making this guitar hard to put down!
Winner of the ‘Best Electro Acoustic Guitar Under £500’ category in the 2006 Guitar and Bass UK Magazine Awards, the OM35SEQ is a dream to play.
Imagine all the great features of the OM35S including Engelmann Solid Spruce Top, Ebony fingerboard and bridge, but with the added bonus of a B-Band® A3T pre-amp to top it off!
The OM35 has a small and compact tapered headstock, a glossy Rosewood face, and Ashtons logo on the front in white and green Abolone. The rear is a lighter coloured Mahogany, with 2 rows of 3-a-side machine heads, Ashtons version of Grover Rotomatics, in Chrome.
The neck is Mahogany, it feels quite thin with a D profile, the bone nut is 43mm wide. The unbound fretboard is Ebony, as is the bridge, not bad on a guitar of this price, it's very dark and hard with small white position markers. The frets on this model are a fairly flat, making the guitar quite easy to play.
The neck joins the small, folk sized Rosewood body at the 14th fret on both sides. The top of the body is solid Engleman Spruce, again a good spec for a sub £250 guitar, it's bright golden in colour with a nice gloss finish, contrasting the dark Rosewood back and sides.
The top is bound in 5 ply black and white plastic, with Maple, the back has plain Maple binding, and there is also a Maple centre line here. The soundhole rosette is a very snazzy looking mixture of Abolone, lots of sparkly colours going on there.
The Ashton OM35SEQ is fitted with a top quality B Band A3T pickup, featuring a built in LED tuner, bass, middle, treble and presence controls, and a master volume to shape your tone. This guitar also has a standard 1/4" output socket and an XLR outpur for connection directly into a mixer or PA system.
Sounds wise, the OM35 has a deep, resonating mellow tone. There's plenty of body, with lots of sustain and volume. With good clarity across the range, it's a good sounding all round guitar, whether you are strumming chords or doing some fingerpicking, which sounds particularly good.
