The Custom 22 has PRS's special 25" scale coupled with their comfortable wide fat neck carve and nickel silver covered PRS Dragon II pickups.
The Custom 24 is the core of the PRS line, the guitar Paul Reed Smith took to his first trade show in 1985.
Today, it still comes with their patented PRS Tremolo bridge, locking tuners, and the beautifully carved, figured maple top that is a PRS hallmark.
PRS guitars always feature small and compact headstocks, this Custom 24 has a beautiful Mahogany grain to the front and back, with the 'Paul Reed Smith' signature logo on the front in gold script and a large black truss rod cover.
The rear is also gloss over Mahogany, with the serial number hand written in black and 2 rows of PRS Phase II locking machine heads in Chrome. These are simple to use, unscrew the screw on the top, post the string through, retighten and tune to pitch, snip of the end, and you're in tune no matter how much you use the tremolo!
The neck is all 1 piece Mahogany, again with the gloss lacquer, and this really shows a beautiful speckly grain to the wood. The neck istself is not overly slim, a D profile, good for hands of all sizes.
Nut width is a mere 41mm, with action at the 12th fret 2mm at the treble side, and 3mm on the bass. PRS set their guitars up before shipping to us dealers, and of course, we check them all over before shipping to you.
The Fingerboard is East Indian Rosewood, top quality as well with a very hard and smooth surface, fretwork is excellent, making playing a joy, shredders will love the fast smooth action.
The inlays here are PRS's famous 'moons', green, white and purple Abolone dots with a lighter crescent shape to the bottom.
The neck joins the Mahogany and Maple body at the 22nd fret on both sides, and upper fret access isjust about the eaasiest on any guitar we've played! The deep bit of chamfering on the treble side cutaway helps of course.
The back of the body is more glossy natural Mahogany, this time with both speckles and waves in the grain. Very nice. The Mahogany is about 27mm deep, then on top is the full thickness Maple cap, another 13mm, arched up in the middle to give that famous resonance and tone through the whole body and into the pickups.
The Maple around the body edge is left in its pale natural colour, and here the top is stained in a bright blue that really bring out the stipey grain that PRS guitars, and Gibsons of course, are famous for.
PRS are also famous for tremolo bridges, and the Custom 24 has a very chunky Nickel trem bridge held in place by 6 screws, with 6 quality looking cast saddles, each individually adjstable for intonation and string height.
The 2 open coil humbuckers, an HFS Treble at the bridge and Vintage Bass on the neck, have cream surrounds, and they sound pretty amazing, loads of power and clarity, this is a guitar that likes to be played loud!
The Custom 24 is great for all styles of music, clean pop, funk and jazz, rock, metal and everything inbetween. On the dirty channel you can see why so many metal bands use PRS guitars, this guitar really rocks!
A classic PRS guitar, the Custom 24, here in Blue Mateo is a real beauty, great to play and look at, but when heard - awsome.
