Top - Spruce Body - Mahogany Binding - Mahogany, Maple and Rosewood Rosette - 'Precious Woods' Spring Design Neck - Nato Finish - Satin Fingerboard - Indonesian Rosewood, Maple binding Machines - Lag Hi-Precision with Ivorine Buttons Bridge - Indonesian Rosewood, Tusq saddle (& nut)
French guitar makers Lag name their ranges after the seasons, and starting here at Spring, we have a good quality dreadnaught with a Spruce top, Mahogany body, Maple binding and top build quality.
If you're after a good looking, great sounding, nice playing acoustic guitat on a budget, then the Lag Spring Dreadnaught is one you should consider.
The headstock is small, tapering almost to a point. The front is faced in darl coloured Rosewood over a thin layer of Maple, and with Lag's logo also in Maple, things get off to a smart start.
The back of the headstock is Mahogany, with two rows of 3 a side machine heads, Lag branded with their Cross motif engraved on the back. they're finished in Chrome with white plastic tulip style buttons.
The neck is also Mahogany, with a satin finish, it feels good and smooth. It's quite rounded, a C profile, nut width is 43mm. The fingerboard is Rosewood, bound up both edges in smart looking Maple. no position markers are present on the board, as seems to be the modern fashion, but small dot markers are on the upper edge of the neck.
Fretwork here is all very good, they're pretty high, well polished and smooth. The board itself is also very hard and well polished up.
The neck joins the satin Mahogany body at the 14th fret, and around the back of the heel joint, Lag have put an extra strap button - very useful.
The top of the Lag Spring range is Spruce, a light golden colour with a nice grain showing. It's bound in Maple with a 4 ply mix of Rosewood and Mahogany as well. Notice the very smart looking soundhole rosette, a mix of exotic woods with the Spring motif at the bottom.
The back and sides are Mahogany, the back is bound in Maple, and there is also a thin centre join line of checkered Maple and Rosewood.
Sounds are very very good, the classic combination of Spruce and Mahogany gives a bright, vibrant, joyful sound with plenty of sustain, character and harmony. It's got good bass and ringing treble, making chords sound open and cheerful. Fingerpickers will also appreciate the good clarity on offer axross the range.
In all, an excellent quality entry level acoustic guitar from Lag, good looks, quality craftsmanship and tonewoods, and a lovely, bright sound.
