Top - Spruce Body - Mahogany Binding - Mahogany, Maple and Rosewood Rosette - Tremontane with <> cross Neck - Honey Mahogany, satin finish, graphite nut Finish - Satin Fingerboard - Indonesian Rosewood Machines - Lag Hi-Precision with Black Satin Buttons Bridge - Indian Rosewood, Graphite saddle
The Lag Tramontane dreadnought features a high gloss piano black finish, solid spruce top, rosewood headstock and sound-hole inlay and many other beautiful touches, all adding up to a very attractive acoustic guitar.
Lag are a French company that have been making quality instruments for some time now, and all of their knowledge has been put into their Tramontane range.
The headstock is wide and curvy, the dark rosewood veneer face has a satin finish with lags logo on top in light coloured maple.
The rear of the headstock, and the length of the neck, has a golden mahogany finish with a heavy gloss lacquer. There are 2 rows of 3 a side tuners, Lags own, finished in matt black.
The neck has a fairly standard width of 44mm, with a D profile. The unbound dark rosewood fingerboard has no position markers, although there are some on the upper edge.
Fretwork and finishing here is very good, nicely polished up, a good waxy feel making it a nice playing guitar.
The neck joins the Mahogany body at the14th fret, the back of the heel joint here has a useful strap button.
The body is entirely gloss black, with attractive dark Rosewood binding, with thin strips of Maple as well, to the top and back. The back also has a thin Rosewood and Maple centre line.
The sound-hole is nicely decorated as well, with plenty of rosewood, mahogany and maple on show, and Lags Tramontane cross at the bottom.
The large bridge is also Rosewood, with a black tusq compensating saddle, and nut.
The Tramontane dreadnought plays very well, the neck and board feel good, and the tones are big and bright. It hasn't got massive bass response, but the mids and highs are exceptionally clear, great for open chord strumming and finger-pickers.
A very different dreadnought, with it's rather Gothic looks, dark Rosewood everywhere and black finish. If you're after something that suits your image more than a standard acoustic, the Tramontane will definitely be worth a look.
