Top - Spruce Body - Mahogany, Abolone rosette, black binding Neck - Mahogany Fingerboard - Rosewood Machines - Grover style, Chrome Bridge - Rosewood Pickup - WT-92 Preamp/Tuner Controls - 3 band EQ, presence, Volume
Washburn have an excellent reputation in the acoustic guitar world, the D10 is the worlds biggest selling dreadnaught, and their Festival Series represents excellent value for money in the ever popular cutaway electro acoustic range.
This EA16 is the entry level model, with a Spruce top, Mahogany body, excellent pickup and pre-amp system with a built in tuner and some cool finishes, including gloss black, or a very sparkly metallic blue!
The Washburn EA16 has a large headstock, tapering outwards, with a curly top and Washburns large logo in gold across the top. The rear of the headstock is plain, with 2 rows of 3-a-side Chrome die-cast tuners only.
The Mahogany neck has a gloss paint finish, as does the whole guitar, and on the EA16, it feels quite big and chunky, with a rounded C profile. Nut width is 44mm, and action as supplied from the factory is pretty good at between 2-3mm across the board at the 12th fret.
The fingerboard is Rosewood with large white position markers, and cream binding up both sides. The board itself and all of the fretwork is perfectly acceptable, all nice and smooth and easy enough to get along with.
The neck joins the Mahogany body at the 14th fret on the bass side, 17th on the treble side, and the cutaway here gives good access up to the 20th fret.
The top and back are both bound in black plastic, and the front has a thin, but very nice, Abolone soundhole rosette, and a smart looking Rosewood bridge.
The EQ unit, found on the upper bout, is Washburns own WT-92 unit, with chunky rubber rotary controls for bass, middle, treble, presence and volume, and a built in tuner, with a blue LED screen.
The sounds are bright and cheerful as well, plenty of clarity to the notes, good depth to the bass and sustain is also pretty good. Great for strumming or picking, and the pickup unit gives a good representation of the natural acoustic tones, with enough variety in the EQ to shape your sound easily.
A very good entry level electro acoustic from Washburn, easy to play, nice sounds and good looks.
