Based on the Music Man Sterling Bass, the downsized body of this guitar is comfortable and easy to hold for longer sets.
The Basswood body offers great warmth and sustain. The bridge is designed by Music Man and uses Stainless Steel saddles with adjustments for height and intonation.
The Music Man designed pickup uses a 3rd hidden coil for noise cancellation. The 3 way switch offers 3 distinct voices, series, parallel and single coil with hidden coil offers great bass tones with low noise.
The 3 Band Active Preamp is based on Music Man's design and offers boost/cut for bass, mid and treble frequencies. Center detent pots for the 3 bands. The pots feel solid and strong.
The 5 bolt neck joint offers greater access to the upper frets. The 5 bolts make for a superior joint that is strong and stable. 9 volt battery access is thru the back of the body and is easily accessed without tools.
The headstock is small and compact, a black gloss face with the Sterling logo in silver. The rear has a gloss finish to the hard Maple, which ends at the top nut, and has 4 open coil Chrome machine heads crammed on.
The neck is slim, a C profile neck, with a satin Maple finish. The 22 fret Rosewood fingerboard is unbound with large white dot position markers.
The neck is bolted to the Basswood body, joining at the 17th fret on the bass side, and 20th on the treble, the cutaway here giving excellent access to to top frets.
The back of the body is plain except for the neck plate, a battery case and a plastic plate covering the controls.
The front is a bit more busy though, a large Music Man designed Chrome bridge with 4 individual saddles, 4 chome control knobs controlling volume, bass, middle and treble, a 3 way switch (more of that in a moment) and the large egg shaped black 3 ply scratchplate familiar to Music Man basses.
The double coil pickup is amazingly clear and powerful, humbucking in its standard mode, it also has a 3rd hidden 'phantom' coil, for noise cancellation, so with the selector switch, you can go from coils 1 & 2 in series or parallel, or the single coil with the phantom coil, all giving a great range of excellent bass sounds.
The guitar is big and heavy, but a brilliant budget option from Music Man, the bass guitar kings!
