When your taste in music is extreme, you need an extreme instrument to back you up! With jagged edges, gnarly curves and chiselled slopes the Metal Axxe Wraith is surely a weapon of mass destruction! With versatility and tone by the bucketful the Wraith is packed with features that not only deliver powerful rock tones but also a wide range sounds thanks to the 5 way pickup selector.
The Wraith features a set Maple neck for enhanced sustain and comfort in combination with a double locking tremolo to take expression to the outer limits. Kitted out with dark and powerful Wilkinson humbuckers the Wraith packs a punch.
The horned asymmetrical headstock of the Metal Axe Wraith looks menacing, armed with a set of 6 satin chrome sealed machine heads. The Vintage logo and Metal Axxe emblem shine in pearloid above the curved truss rod cover, which also bears the Metal Axxe logo. The strings running from the tuners are gripped tight by the three-piece locking nut, which ensures that the guitar won’t go out of tune as you crank the whammy bar.
The smooth rosewood fretboard is laid out with 24 rounded frets and central dot position markers, with an inlay design at the 12th fret. The deeply set lower cutaway arches away from the set neck at the 21st fret giving easy access to the high notes. Both front horns of the guitar arch out into protruding blades and all extremities are finished off with axe like chamfering. This unique shape, in combination with either a quilted or flamed maple top, makes the Wraith an eye-catching instrument on stage.
At the heart of the Wraith’s sound lie two Wilkinson humbuckers that have enlarged black caps for extra power and response. Used separately or in unison they sound menacing through clean or distorted amp settings, and in combination with the double locking tremolo, are a formidable force. Neck and bridge positions yield suitably different sounds, from thrashy treble bite at the bridge to a well-defined bluesy sound at the neck there, is plenty to experiment with here.
The Wraith has a trick up its sleeve though – using the 5 way pickup selector you can set each humbucker to work in single coil mode. This instantly brightens up the tone delivering a crisp and lively sound that you would not expect from this guitar. The master tone and volume controls give you the power to fully utilise the Wraith’s versatility. The locking nut means that once set up the strings will remain in tune after a battering from the wammy bar, which is essential for screaming sound effects! Micro tuners on the adjustable bridge give you accurate control over fine-tuning and intonation – check our guide to technical info for help with this.
The Wraith has the guts to go with its looks and offers a unique style that is sure to attract attention. Playability and durability are guaranteed thanks to a full deck of Wilkinson hardware and all components are finished in satin chrome or matt black for the ultimate in style and comfort. Those who like to experiment with sound will also be rewarded with a diverse tonal range thanks to the different possible pickup configurations.
