The Vintage EST96 pays tribute to the Stingray style bass guitar designed in 1976 by Musicman, notable for its large round scratchplate. This legendary design is widely used by artists today for its power and versatility, not to mention its audacious attitude!
The Eastern Poplar body and bolt on Maple neck gives a sturdy and reliable construction, with the circular central scratchplate and Maple fingerboard supplying the style. A single humbucker style pickup provides the pounding sounds and a three band active EQ lets you shape your tone as you play.
The Vintage EST 96 features a 3 + 1 tuner arrangement on the headstock, so you don’t have to reach too far to tune that G string. Its glossy face displays the Vintage logo in gold and a chunky chrome string tree grips the higher strings to guide them securely through the nut. The whole neck of the EST 96 has a natural finish, displaying the creamy Maple grain.
The rear of the neck has been treated to produce a heavy satin finish making this one of the smoothest necks we have ever felt! This reduced friction is sure to pay off during long practice sessions or sweaty gigs, saving you precious energy. Large black dot position inlays run down the maple fingerboard to indicate fret number. The fingerboard has the same extra smooth finish as the neck to give excellent playability, along with the well polished frets.
The double cutaway body shape of the EST96 is asymmetrical, allowing a greater reach of the upper regions of the fretboard right up to fret 21. A chrome straphook is situated on the upper horn, which veers forwards to balance the bass while standing. This layout gives you a good command of the frets right across the neck. The curved design of the EST96 also extends to the chrome bridge with its enlarged, rounded base plate. The bridge houses individually adjustable saddles for fine-tuning of string height and intonation. The EST96 is available in Sunburst, Blackor Natural finish options, and a 5 string Flame Top Brownburst, all with active circuitry. The sound of the EST96 is harnessed by a chunky Wilkinson Double coil humbucker style pickup. This produces a thick and powerful tone thanks to its extra wide pole pieces, designed to eliminate unwanted noise whilst increasing output. The active circuitry on the EST96 includes a three band EQ system giving you control over treble, mid and bass frequencies. Each has a separate chrome control knob that rolls back to cut frequencies or forward to boost them. There is a master volume dial in addition to these controls, each of which is set in an attractive curved chrome front plate.
The EST96 is a truly versatile instrument and the humbucker delivers a thick, punchy tone great for rock and heavier styles, although the tone controls can be adjusted to suit a range of other styles too. For those who are in real need of pounding bass, the five string version gives you the extra dimension of having a low B string – use it at your own risk!
