Striking looks and fine detail make the Aria XL Standard a great entry-level rock guitar. From the downward pointing headstock to the acute body horns and sharkfin fretboard inlays - you can tell this is guitar means business. A double cutaway Alder body and bolt on Maple neck resembles a revved up ‘Strat’ style guitar, with the added power of having a humbucker pickup in the bridge position.
Black chrome hardware including volume and tone controls and sealed tuners gives the XL standard its dark looks, complemented by either metallic blue, or black body paint. The sealed black tuners run in a line of six and offer precision tuning and a smooth action. These are of better quality than other budget guitars and enhance the reliability of the guitar during long playing sessions. This guitar is designed for medium to heavy rock and fast lead guitar playing, with a smooth Rosewood fingerboard and slender action. A white binding runs around the edge of the fretboard, protecting your palm from the fret ends and the neck has a natural satin wood finish to reduce friction. Large Sharkfin pearloid inlays run down the fretboard for reference and also provide a smooth surface for note bending, they look great too!
Around the back the heel joint tapers in giving you more of a reach around the front of the fretboard for unhindered solo playing. The traditional tremolo bridge is held in place by six screws and springs in the back of the guitar balance out the tension of the strings. This gives it a flexible action to allow you the extra expression of adding trills and dives to notes by depressing the whammy bar. Just below the bridge lie the master volume and tone controls, and a switch that converts the humbucker to single coil output for a brighter, more dynamic tone, a feature rarely found in a budget instrument.
The bridge humbucker delivers a noise free powerful sound that is great for chunky riffs with hi-gain amp settings. Selecting the middle pickup will give a brighter sound with a treble sparkle great for clean amp sounds and chorus effect settings. For full on blues the neck pickup has a more colourful tone, and using the five way pickup selector you can blend the sounds coming from multiple pickups.
The Aria XL standard has got useful and exciting features making it great value for money. First time guitarists will have fun experimenting with the different sounds the XL Standard can make, and should feel right at home with the comfortable and very playable neck.
