The Tanglewood TW145 is a beautifully curved super folk guitar with smooth tones and stylish looks. Putting the emphasis on woods natural beauty, the TW145 is finished in natural satin with an all-wooden body binding. It owes its sound to the solid Cedar top and incorporates a top quality Finnish made BBand equaliser.
The symmetrical rectangular headstock of the TW145 is decorated with a sparkling Abalone Tanglewood inlay, in-between two rows of chrome Grover tuners.
These have large kidney shaped knobs that feel luxurious and take all the stress out of fine-tuning your guitar. At the base of the rear of the headstock is a diamond shaped volute that adds extra strength to the structure of the neck.
A darkened Rosewood fingerboard is neatly set with smooth frets and decorative Abalone snowflake inlays. The frets are excellently dressed and a wooden binding runs around the entire fretboard giving a seamless feel to the neck. The thickly grained Mahogany of the neck shines from within a satin finish and has a glowing pattern strangely reminiscent of leopard print. The lower plane of the neck sweeps into the deep inward curve of the cutaway exposing the higher frets and giving the TW145 a unique character. This curve then sweeps back and in towards the soundhole giving the guitar its narrow mid section and providing a comfy knee rest.
The arching curves and wider lower body are bound around both the back and front with wood, adding to the TW145’s natural style.
Other details include a multi ring sound hole rosette forming intricate lines that match the multiple front binding. Just below this is a tortoise shell scratch plate that is also curved to mirror the shape of the guitar. The richly coloured solid Cedar top has fine grain that runs in straight lines parallel to the neck. This is contrasted by the Mahogany back and sides that have a wider grain with a darker, more speckled pattern.
The overall sound of the TW145 owes itself to the solid Cedar top, which has an even and compact grain that is highly responsive to light playing styles. Cedar adds a warm tonal character with plenty of mid range and the narrow waist of the body and larger lower curves complements this. The Mahogany of the back and sides has the strength to add volume to the sound of the instrument, increasing overall resonance.
For excellent tonal resolution that will increase with age the TW145 is available in an all-solid version with solid Mahogany in the back and sides. The indented upper body is fitted with a compact Bband equaliser. This electro acoustic pickup, made in Finland, offers control over three frequency bands in addition to a volume and presence control. Bband are a leading name in acoustic guitar electronics and the sound of the TW145 is faithfully recreated when you plug it into an amp. The instrument cable socket neatly doubles up as a chrome strap hook and is located in a central position at the base of the guitar.
The Tanglewood TW145 has a lot to offer including smooth natural looks and warm tonal interest.
Tanglewood have taken the traditional single cutaway design and added a whole lot of style in the form of abalone inlays and wooden binding. A highly playable instrument, the TW145 is versatile and would suit a variety of playing styles from fingerpicking to rock.
Available in an all sodid body or solid top only, also available in a 12 string solid top version. Fast becoming one of Tanglewoods most popular models.
