The Epiphone Les Paul Studio is the first in Epiphone’s range of Les Paul guitars to feature a set neck, giving it the classic profile and feel of a Les Paul, and contributing to its great tone. In addition to this, the Studio has open Alnico classic humbuckers, designed by Epiphone for ultimate tone and sustain. With a set of Grover tuners (the leading name in machine heads) and separate volume and tone controls for each pickup it’s clear that this is the best value and most authentic of the entry level Les Paul models.
At the symmetrically shaped headstock, the Epiphone logo shines in mother of pearl just above the Les Paul model signature-style label, and truss rod cover bearing the studio mark. As far as budget guitars go, this one has an impressive array of features, especially the 3 a side chrome Grover tuners, which make tuning up a pleasure and remain accurately in position during extended performances. Playing the Studio whilst sitting down is effortless thanks to the curves and single cutaway of the Mahogany and Alder body and standing up the guitar stands promptly to attention with all frets within easy reach.
The 22 fret Mahogany neck has all the attributes of a much higher priced guitar – a smooth and comfy profile, Rosewood fingerboard with well rounded frets, set and dressed perfectly and inlayed with dot position markers as well as a seamless gloss finish that enhances playability by reducing friction against your palm.
The chrome hardware of the adjustable bridge and stop tailpiece suspend the strings at just the right place to give you a fast action right down the neck, whilst still giving you enough room for the fast paced strumming that this guitar loves! The ceramic magnet humbuckers and independent volume and tone controls can be fine-tuned to kick out a huge range of tones from full-bodied melody to high-end articulation at the flick of the three way pickup selector. This versatility of sound make the Les Paul well suited to a huge range of musical styles from rock and blues to jazz, pump up the distortion and you’ll be right at home playing metal too!
Quality construction, versatility and great tone make the Epiphone Les Paul Studio just as happy on stage as in the hands of a first time guitarist and being slightly lighter than its big brothers the Standard and Custom, it is an ideal starter for someone after this type of guitar, or for a musician on the move.
