The Tanglewood TW1200 brings the 12 string acoustic guitar to entry level in the form of a broad dreadnaught body shape. This volume in combination with the extra strings makes for a powerful and full on sound that really has to be heard to be believed. The sound is richer and more ringing than a standard six string guitar thanks to the double coarse of strings. These pairs of strings are fretted and played simultaneously giving more volume and interest to each note. The wound (bass) strings are usually tuned an octave apart from their double, whereas the treble strings have a matching tuning. There are however many different tuning possibilities to suit your musical needs!
The elongated rectangular headstock bears 12 sealed chrome tuners arranged into two lines, above and below the golden Tanglewood logo. These follow the usual separation of bass and treble sides, with the strings arranged into pairs as they slide through the elaborate top nut. The Mahogany neck is a fraction wider to accommodate for the extra strings and the rosewood fingerboard bears low profile frets that take the strain out of finger work.
Large circular position inlays run centrally in-between the frets and small white side dots are found on the wooden binding that surrounds the fretboard for easy reference. The neck joins the body at the 14th fret, forming a heel that is reinforced inside the body to compensate for the pull of the extra strings. This extra support prevents warping of the neck over time and increases the durability of the instrument. A multiple celluloid binding runs around the Spruce face of the guitar forming thin black and white lines that match the soundhole rings. The face of the TW1200 also bears a curved black pick guard and a broad Rosewood bridge which houses 12 black bridge pins and a compensating saddle. The back and sides of the Tanglewood TW1200 are of a rich Mahogany and all faces have a natural satin finish. There is also a chrome strap hook at the base of the guitar.
The TW1200 delivers a thick tone that is characteristic of a 12 string acoustic guitar. The spruce top adds a punchy treble response whereas the dreadnaught body shape ensures full bass and extra volume. Considering the extra materials and construction that goes into a 12 string acoustic guitar the TW1200 offers superb value for money.
