Top of Tanglewoods Semi Acoustic range is the TSB49, finished with a fantastic flame Maple top, with multiple Ivory colour binding, gold hardware all round, 2 humbuckers and Grover Machine Heads.
Full on luxury for less than £360, you'll be mighty impressed at the massive range of electric guitar tones on offer as well, these semi acoustic guitars are so versatile, you can play anything from jazz to punk on them.
The headstock is small and curvy, the dark blue face has a large black truss rod cover, and Tanglewoods logo shining out brilliantly in green and purple Abolone. The back has a somewhat lighter colour and is pretty much plain except for the 3 gold Grover Rotomatic tuners.
The Maple neck has a gloss blue finish showing the swirly wood grain through. It feels fairly chunky too, nut width is 43mm, and it's a fatish D profile. The Rosewood fingerboard is unbound, excellent fretwork and a light grain to the wood, nice and smooth it plays very well. Small green Abolone elipses mark the usual fretboard positions, a nice touch.
The set neck joins the Maple body at the 19th fret, and the double cutaway body shape gives good access to all 22 frets. The back is plain gloss blue, again showing a lovely stripy wood grain through, although it stops short of being a flamed finish, and is bound in cream plastic.
The body is super slim, 45mm all round. The front is bound in 5 ply cream and black plastic and has a wonderfully stripey Flame Maple finish, in a blue burst effect, black around the edges, bright blue in the middle.
There a 2 bound 'f' holes, which let the deep and resonant tones ring out. A large 3 ply black scratchplate dominates the lower body, along with 4 Amber control knobs, 2 volume and 2 tone, and the 3 way selector switch.
Hardware is gold all round, so there are 2 humbuckers, a tune-o-matic style bridge and stop tailpiece and 2 straphooks, the top one being on the back of the neck joint for good balance.
The neck pickup is very mellow and warm with a lovely sound for clean channel rhythm work. The bridge pickup is a fair bit brighter, great for picking, solo work and plenty of jangle. On an overdrive channel, the guitar performs just as well, loads of power and sustain that will please any rocker out there.
In all, a great performing semi, good looks, great sounds and plenty of vibe for your cash.
