If rock ‘n’ roll is all about taking things to the extreme then the Epiphone Black Beauty surly fits the bill as a truly rocking instrument. Why settle for two pickups when you could fit three in there?! Yes, this guitar is packed with high-grade hardware and is not afraid to show it off in beaming gold! The Black Beauty is also decked out with all the trimmings of a top of the range Les Paul including head, neck and body binding, and an Epiphone logo and emblem in shimmering mother of pearl. Looking beyond this dazzling display however, into the wood and workings of the instrument lies a beautifully made set neck and solid bodied guitar full of tonal character and resonance.
Gold Grover machine heads are the industry’s finest in precision tuning, giving you long lasting hold on strings which slide smoothly over the high-grade nut. It only takes a fraction of a turn and the strings will stay reliably in tune – an essential point if you are to harness the full musical potential of this Les Paul. Holding the strings at the other end are the gold-finished tune-o-matic bridge and stop tailpiece – a technical feature that revolutionised the process of intonation. The awesome sound capability of the Black Beauty lies in its gold covered Alnico classic magnet pickups – all 3 of them! Selected by the 3 way pickup selector and volume controls, each of these humbuckers responds to its own unique range of sounds as the strings vibrations change with position. In the neck position the warm mid tonal resonance makes for great solo or clean playing as well as smooth and flowing rhythms. The middle pickup has its own blend of subtle mids, however the sound is a touch brighter with more high-end articulation. For fast paced rock into metal riffing however the bridge pickup comes into full effect with cutting treble and booming power. On top of this variation you have the independent tone and volume controls to really fine tune your sound and get the pickups and amp settings interacting smoothly together, or fighting for that dirty overdrive!
