The Tanglewood TW47 is a super folk electro acoustic guitar from Tanglewood with an all-solid Mahogany body construction. In the Tanglewood Sundance Pro range of acoustics, this is a top end guitar with components of the highest quality including a hand carved bone nut and saddle and Finnish made B-Band EQ system. The TW47 also has a tortoishell Celluloid binding, abalone soundhole decoration and stunning high-gloss finish all over.
The super folk shape of the TW47 incorporates a single cutaway design that runs flat with the heel joint allowing maximum reach of the highest frets. The body then sweeps around into the lower protrusion and back inwards forming the waist. This creates a comfortable leg rest and is enhanced by the ultra smooth gloss finish. The narrow waist and enlarged lower body give the TW47 its mellow sounds, with just the right mix of treble and bass.
A multi layer tortoise shell (coloured only, no tortoises were killed here) binding runs around the front and back of the body, giving emphasis to the sweeping curves and complementing the rich Mahogany grain of the TW47. This binding also follows the up the neck, around the fretboard and the face of the headstock. The soundhole has an intricate multi ringed decoration, inlaid with shimmering Abalone and a tortoise shell binding completes the look. At the headstock the Tanglewood logo is neatly set in green and purple Abalone, matching small dot inlays running down the Rosewood fretboard. The face of the headstock is of a lighter Mahogany than the body and has an attractive wood grain, framed in its multi layer binding.
The ultimate in style and performance – a set of gold Grover machine heads provide unsurpassed tuning stability and accuracy as they grip the strings over the hand carved bone nut. The base of the headstock is carved into a diamond shaped volute, giving extra strength to the neck structure. The elegantly curved Rosewood bridge secures the strings at the other end between 6 bridge pins and the hand carved compensating bone saddle. Bone at the nut and saddle ensure maximum vibrations pass from the strings through the body of the guitar.
The 20 frets of the TW47 are excellently polished and well set into the Rosewood fretboard, with all fret ends smoothly bound for supreme comfort.
The TW47 takes all the strain out of chords and note bending and the strings feel slinky and malleable all the way up the neck, as a top quality guitar should feel. The all-solid Mahogany body gives a warm and mellow voice to the guitar, with a rich harmonic content. The high notes are responsive to the lightest fingerwork and ring out with soft high tones. With harder strumming the attack becomes slightly more pronounced on the bass strings, but in general the TW47 delivers most of its natural chimey voice when played with a lighter touch or fingerpicking. The TW47 is extremely responsive to these styles and sounds full of lively harmonic interest during fingered arpeggios.
The B-Band transducer features an unobtrusive control panel, with dials for bass, middle and treble tones, as well as volume and presence. B-Band uses technology that results in excellent reproduction of the guitar’s unique sound and is generally considered superior to piezo pickups. The Chrome straphook at the base of the guitar also doubles up as the instrument jack. The Tanglewood TW47 comes fitted with a set of Elixir strings for ultimate tone and durability.
