This PRS Special Edition guitar is the exact copy of the PRS guitar used by Mark Tremonti of the band Creed. The single cutaway body is made of solid Mahogany with a set Mahogany neck for a thick and sustained tone. A body binding frames the precisely rounded curves of the luxurious finish, available in either Black or Antique White. A pair of open humbuckers is set in the neck and bridge positions, with a three way pickup selector to switch between them. Each pickup has its own volume and tone dial giving you a greater control over your range of sounds. PRS’ attention to detail ensures that you get a full-bodied tone with unbeatable playability, and the hardware is also PRS designed.
The 25” neck scale accommodates elaborate fingering techniques, which in conjunction with a lovely Rosewood fingerboard make this guitar such a pleasure to play. The neck has a ‘wide fat’ profile giving it a very sturdy feel, and it is also finished in the same coloured gloss lacquer as the body. The strings slip and slide against the frets with no friction at all thanks to immaculate polishing, and this smooth action translates into crystal clear tone and incredible sustain. A binding runs around the edge of the fretboard, sealing in all of the fret ends and making for a smooth surface for your fretting palm to slide against. Set into the finely grained rosewood are a set of white dot position markers, with customary double inlay at fret 12.
The neck heel joins the upper body shoulder at the 16th fret, adding rigidity to the neck structure, and helping to transfer tone through the bulk of the Mahogany body. On the other side the upper frets are exposed by the deeply set lower cutaway for easy access. A deep scallop is carved into this lower horn, which acts to cradle the fretting hand of those who spend too much time soloing!
At the headstock the chrome tuners are arranged into a three a side formation, getting narrower towards the jagged tip. Between these lie the Tremonti SE logo, and the truss rod cover is labelled with PRS. Around the back each machine head is PRS branded on the sealed gear mechanism, and the large turning posts give you accurate control over string tension. Tuning stability is also enhanced by the accurately cut top nut, with deep grooves to maintain perfect string height above the fretboard. Both the black and white models have a contrasting binding around the headstock, accentuating its angular shape.
The SE Tremonti is fitted with open coil PRS designed humbuckers, set in black surrounds and the pickup selector also has a matching knob. The 2 sets of volume and tone controls have the traditional black with white numbered dials showing through a clear resin.
Strumming the Tremonti unplugged reveals a sweet and ringing tone, with a well-defined lower end resonating through the Mahogany body. The neck pickup is perfect for sucking up all of the Mahogany body tone for a very well presented clean sound and thick bass response. Barre chords ring out at the lightest touch, and across the fretboard you’ll find all sorts of harmonics to play with. There is plenty of bluesy character to this tone, and with increasing distortion this pickup wails out with a life of its own.
Flick over to the bridge pickup and the high end tightens up for a much more crunchy tone. On clean amp settings this gives plenty of bite for rock inclined rhythms and punchy licks. Revving up the distortion lets you dive into heavy rock and metal sounds for tight and fast rhythms whilst keeping noise to a minimum. Again there’s a lot of scope for fine tuning your sound with the volume and tone controls to get a diverse range of sounds to play with. With the pickup selector in mid position you get the colour of the neck pickup with the crunch of the bridge for a great all round sound.
The separate volume and tone controls give you extra scope for fine-tuning your sound, letting you set different tones for each pickup. This can be especially useful in a live situation where you need to switch between rhythm and lead parts in a song without the use of foot switches. This extremely versatile guitar is built to the standards required of professional guitarists, whilst offering the best possible value for money.
The guitar is supplied with a thickly padded PRS gig bag. This premium guitar case has heavy duty zips with loops for use with a pad lock, a large front pocket and backpack style handles. The front pocket is embroidered with a large PRS SE logo showing of what’s inside.
