The Daisy Rock ‘Rock Candy’ Special is the new bass guitar in their girly line, and it’s a real beauty of an instrument. Designed with all of the features associated with Dasiy Rock, including a lightweight and narrow body, this bass guitar adds its own touch of class to the range, with a luxurious solid quilted Maple top and neck thru body construction. The guitar is also a deep pink colour, with ripples that blend into red, contrasted with black pickups and shining chrome hardware.
This bass guitar is well beyond entry level specifications, and its components and construction are all of top quality. Included are Grover machine heads and active pickups designed by EMG, whilst the neck through design maximises resonance and sustain of the guitar. The symmetrical headstock bears four Grover made tuners, with large chrome turning posts for a smooth and easy operation. Around the front the strings slot securely into place for a reliable performance and easy string changes. The face of the headstock shimmers with the same quilted wood grain as the body, and bears the Daisy Rock logo in elegant gold font.
The top of the neck narrows towards the black top nut and the super slim neck profile should make easy work for smaller, feminine hands. The neck through body construction means that there is no heel joint to obstruct your fretting hand, and at fret 18, the back of the neck slopes gently into the body. The neck is made from bands of Rock Maple and Walnut that run the entire length of the body, and because the strings and pickups are all mounted to the same pieces of wood, this enhances the guitar’s tonal quality superbly.
The excellent standard of the Rosewood fingerboard and fretwork make for a smooth and consistent playability right up the neck. Beginners will benefit from the low string action, and for more advanced players, the guitars should encourage more tricky fingering techniques. Inlaid between the frets is a set of pearloid stars, descending in size as they float down the fretboard, with a double marker at the 12th fret.
The body features a deeply indented lower cutaway, and the top horn arches over the fretboard to hold one of the large chrome straphooks, these are broad enough to keep the guitar hanging through some seriously energetic gigs! The chunky chrome bridge feels smooth and sturdy, and the strings slot into place through individual holes, passing over adjustable saddles as they go. The four control knobs display more chunky chrome fittings, and have a smooth and precise action. All together the shining chrome hardware makes for an interesting contrast with the deep body colour to give a lavish appearance that demands attention.
The sound of the Rock Candy Special bass is powered by two black covered pickups, designed by EMG with active circuitry to give precise control over tone. The active EQ system controls bass and treble frequencies to let you cut or boost the sound where necessary. There is also a pickup blend dial and a master volume control. This range of controls gives you a wide range of sounds to play with, from bright and snappy to low and booming and everywhere inbetween. The resonant body is very responsive to different plucking and fingering styles including more advanced slap bass playing.
