Top - Solid Spruce Back/Sides - Mahogany Neck - Mahogany Fingerboard - Rosewood Machines - Grover style, Chrome Bridge - Rosewood
The Folk sized version of Washburns world beating dreadnaught, the D10S.
With a smaller sized body, the F10S proves to be an ideal songwriting tool and great sounding all around Folk guitar.
Featuring a solid Spruce top and Mahogany body, a very impressive player it is, comfortable, clean sounding and pleasing on the eye.
The long, pointed headstock tapers slightly towards its end, with a gloss finish, you can see the lovely grain of the Mahogany through. The Washburn logo in subtly painted onto the end in gold.
The back of the head has a similar finish, which also runs all the way down the neck, with 2 rows of 3-a-side Chrome die-cast tuners, and a logo for George Washburn, 1883, Handcrafted it says.
The neck is very slim, great for smaller hands, a shallow D profile. The nut width is 42mm, all Washburns are fully set-up in the UK by their own Luthiers prior to dispatch to us dealers, this model has an action, string height, of 3mm on the bass side, 2mm on the treble at the 12th fret. That's pretty low, and makes for an easy guitar to play, particularly as you progress up the fingerboard.
The Rosewood fretboard is fully bound in white plastic, with very good, smooth fretwork. The Rosewood itself is very reasonable too, especially considering this guitars price tag.
The neck joins the Mahogany body at the 14th fret on both sides, the back of the heel joint has another Washburn logo around the rear. The whole body of the guitar is finished in a heavy gloss lacquer giving a smooth, warm feeling.
The Mahogany back and sides have a lovely tight grain, the back having a centre line, Washburns trademark 'Cubes', the same as is used for the soundhole rosette. Both the top and back are also fully bound in white, the top is 5 ply white and black.
The light coloured top is solid Spruce, giving an excellent tone that will improve with age, and it's pretty good to start with. Bright and characterful, plenty of volume and clarity, response and sustain are excellent, and you'll be getting good bass sounds as well, considering the smaller body size, but middle and top end are really sparkly.
The soundhole has a beautifully decorated rosette, the same Cubes, and a plain black scratchplate. The square, blocky bridge is Rosewood, with 6 white bridge pins.
In all, it's a total joy to play. not too big, with a nice slim neck, charming sounds, great looks and tones that improve over the many years you'll want to keep hold of it!
