In early 2006, Traveler Guitar was busy at work updating the Escape line for 2007 when their engineer suggested that they make contact with the internationally recognized guitar builder John Carruthers for some design input.
An immediate friendship between John and Traveler Guitar blossomed and the end result is a completely updated line of beautiful and sophisticated instruments which exemplify Traveler Guitar's ingenuity and John Carruthers' attention to detail and extraordinary eye for beauty.
For 15 years Traveler Guitar has set the standard for what portable instruments ought to look, feel and sound like; with the all new, fully-loaded Traveler Escape EG-1, they have raised the bar once again. Building upon the ideas of their already successful Escape line, they have created a new travel guitar for the electric purist. The Escape EG-1 is their top of the line electric travel guitar complete with a built in headphone amplifier from Pocket Rock-It, a full-size humbucker, a full 25 1/2 inch scale, 22 jumbo frets, an array of classic colors and a top-of-the-line custom gig-bag from High Sierra.
Pocket Rock-It's custom electronics provide classic clean and distortion tones, both through the headphones and through a traditional amplifier. If you're a serious traveler, and an even more serious electric guitar player, then the Escape EG-1 is the most sophisticated electric travel guitar you'll ever play.
These are really small and light guitars, not just usful for traveling, but could be suitable for kids as well. No headstock, the strings (just normal strings) go in though this end, pass over the bridge, around the bottom of the guitar and the tuning begs are on the back.
The guitar is very good quality, the Rosewood fretboard and Maple neck are very nice to play, and it come with a trussrod fitted. The neck is bolted onto the Alder body, which has a nice flame finish on the red and black models.
The front of the body has 2 chambers for the machine heads. The keep tune well, but it may take a little while to get used to this strange method of tuning your guitar! The body itself if tiny, with a single cutaway ala LP. 2 straphooks are fitted so you can play this with a strap very comfortably.
We have a single humbucking pickup, which gives some very good tones, plenty good enough for what the guitar is designed for. Single volume and tone controls, and a full adjustable bridge, height and intonation, finish off the controls.
The guitar can be played normally through any amp with the 1/4" jack output, but also we have a 3.5mm headphone jack, headphones are included by the way. The Escape has a brilliant pre-amp fitted, powered by a 9v battery, with both clean and overdrive settings! This makes the guitar great fun to play absolutely anywhere without disturbing anyone.
Also included is a decent quality specially designed gig-bag.
Great funa dn a must for anyone travelling who can't be withour their guitar for more than a few hours!
