ESP's famous Viper series bears a remarkable similarity to the Gibson SG, but beefed right up with a offset asymetrical body shape.
This ESP pickups loaded version is perfect for rock, metal and thrash, so if that's your thing, read on!
The nicely shaped headstock seems a bit conservative really, black to the front and back, with very tidy cream binding and 3-a-side black Nickel ESP tuners, which are very good quality as well. A plain black truss rod cover finishes off here.
The slim Mahogany set neck is also finished in a glossy black paint job, the cream binding continues down either side of the Rosewood fretboard. The 24 Extra Jumbo frets are very well finished, with a tight grain to the fretboard itself, it plays very nicely.
Small dot position markers are provided, with EMG's traditional 12th fret black inlay, with the model number displayed for all to see.
The offset horns give very easy access to the upper frets for high pitched solo's, all picked up by the much sought after ESP LH-301 humbuckers, distinctive by that matt black casing. These are well hot, with a massive tonal range, aided by a coil tap as well, anything from bright jangle to deep throated metal mayhem!
The body has a nice dard quilted finish, just taking the edge off of the all black finish. Nicely chamfered, particularly around the top of the body, it is very comfortable to play, and not all that heavy.
The tune-o-matic style bridge and tailpiece look quality in a black Nickel finish, matching the volume and tone controls, this really makes for a very nice looking rock guitar, not too garish perhaps, but something out of the ordinary.
A serious rock guitar with hot pickups, quality hardware, power and performance.
