The TW55 Super Jumbo electro acoustic from Tanglewoods Sundance Pro range. Big body, big on sounds and plenty of character and tone on offer.
The headstock and neck are have a smooth satin finish, all fully bound in cream celluloid plastic. The neck is quite slim and comfortable, with a nut width of 43mm. The rear of the neck has a sunburst look as well, a lighter Mahogany look to the middle, much darker nearer the headstock and body.
The front of the headstock has a gloss finish, with an attractive green Abolone Tanglewood logo shining out. The 3 a side die cast tuners are a striaght forward Chrome affair, they're not Grovers, but work very well.
The Rosewood fingerboard feels nice and smooth, a good tightly grained bit of wood, fretwork is neat and tidy as well, as always on the Sundance range. Tanglewood have put their favorite green Abolone snowflake markers on this model.
The neck joins the body at the 14th fret on the bass side, with the cutaway side 2 frets higher but giving access pretty well up to the 20th fret. The heel join has a strap button on the rear, always useful.
The big body, 420mm wide at the widest, has a full high gloss finish in Vintage Sunburst, fully bound to the front and back, the front in a nice 5 ply cream and black. The soundhole rozette is quite nice, making the soundhole itself look much bigger than it is, but on a body this size, well in proportion.
The TW55 has the superb B Band A3T pickup system, fully active with a battery housing on the botton near the straphook, whick doubles up as the jack socket. The A3T is tiny, just about 50mm square, and weighing in at just about nothing, you bearly notice it's even there. Controls for Bass, Middle and Treble, Presence and a master volume are easily at hand, and the built in tuner can easily be switched on, with a bright red LED display making a bit of retuning a breeze.
Fitted with top quality Elixir strings, this guitar has a big sound, open chords ring out with plenty of bottom end and sustain. Finger picking is just great on this guitar, with loads of clarity all over the fretboard, particilarly at the bass end of the range, where other guitars often ten to be a bit thin. The B Band EQ reproduces the sound remarkably well, with plenty of scope for adjustment from the 3 band EQ.
A great player, the Sundance Pro TW55 is a really popular model and a great addition to your collection.
