What is the best guitar slide?
If you are confused on which to buy then don't panic. Any slide can be used for any guitar in theory as they all do the same thing but in practice sometimes using a different one works and sounds better for different instruments.
For example, for electric, it is traditionally a glass or bottleneck that is used as they are smooth and lightweight; this means that the strings don't get pushed down which avoids the slide from hitting on the frets as it glides over the strings. A player of this style to check out to give an idea of the sound from a glass slide would be 'Derek Trucks'.
Chrome ones also work well for electric, they give a more high end and crispy sound. If you want to hear what a chrome slide sounds like then make a YouTube search for 'Joe Bonamassa Slide'.
Brass ones are good for acoustic guitars and higher actions, they tend to be heavier and are more prone to push down your strings. With acoustic strings, brass yields a louder, more prominent sound. YouTube 'Brass Slide Guitar' to hear this slide and you'll find that generally they are used for acoustics and resonators.
