The Yamaha RBX270 is a lot of bass at a really keen price. Standard RBX features include a 34?-scale neck with full two-octave fingerboard, with excellent up-top access provided by the wide-cutaway contouring of the solid Alder body.
The combination of powerful split coil and single-coil bar pickups is a favourite among many bass players, and offers an extensive range of sounds via the instrument?s pickup balance control.
The RBX270 has a small curvy headstock, with a black satin finish to the front and the Yamaha logo in silver. The back is satin natural, with 2 rows of Machine Heads, slightly offset, coming down at an angle to produce more string tension. The tuners are unbranded, Chrome die-cast style, with large knobs. A large, chrome single string tree keeps the strings in place on the headstock as well.
The Maple neck has a satin natural finish to the rear, and it feels pretty good. Nut width is 40mm, giving a slim feeling. String spacing at the bridge is 56mm, and action on this model from the factory is 4mm on the bass side, 3mm on the treble.
The Rosewood fingerboard is unbound, a full 2 octaves, with a nice grain, waxy finish and large, white Abolone position markers. It all makes for a nicely playable bass.
The neck is bolted to the Alder body, a Chrome plate and 4 screws holding everything together round the back. The cutaways join the neck at the 19th fret on the bass side, and 21st on the treble, having a deep cutaway here gives excellent access to the full range.
The gloss Black body is of a modern bass style, so it has an exaggerated, large upper horn giving good balance. It's nicely chamfered away around the back of the upper bout giving a comfortable playing position, and the font of the upper bout so you right arm can move freely.
The RBX270 has 2 pickups, in the middle of the guitar a P style split coil, and nearer the bridge a J style single coil. The pickups can be blended together or used separately by using one of the 3 controls, the P style giving a nice bright sound, the J stlye a fair bit more woody and mellow.
The bridge is Chrome, a standard 4 saddle bass style, all fully adjustable, and there is also master tone and volume controls - all fairly straight forward stuff.
Good value, a nice player with decent sounds. Good if you're after a quality bass on a budget which has a good variety of different sounds to offer.
