The EC50 is ESP's entry level LP copy from their Ltd range. With 2 decent ESP humbuckers, Chrome hardware, a superb neck and fingerboard and matt black rock looks, it plays nicely and sounds great.
The wavey headstock is satin black all over, with Ltd's signature logo in silver on the front. The back has ESP's logo, a thing warning you not to put the guitar in your dustbin, and 2 rows of 3-a-side Chrome tuners, branded ESP, they are top quality.
The Maple neck also has a satin black finish, nice and smooth, it plays very well, considering this is ESP's entry level guitar! The Rosewood fingerboard is unbound, with small Abolone dot position markersm and ESP's traditional 12th fret block inlay, showing the model number.
Fretwork is, as always, to a high standard, with the 24 fret board itself well polished up with a noce, waxy feel. Top nut width on the EC50 is just about 41mm, with the action on this guitar from the box being less than 3mm across the 12th fret. Very well set up from the factory.
The neck is bolted onto the Basswood body, joining at the 16th fret on the bass side, 20th on the treble side. The cutaway here has some extra chamfering, giving comfortable access to all 24 frets.
The body is entirely satin black, and the back has a V shaped bit of chamfering where your body sits, also giving a nice playing position.
It's all a fairly standard LP set up, the 3 way selector switch is on the upper corner, and we have a Chrome tune-o-matic style bridge and stop tailpiece, 2 volume controls, and a master tone control, all in Chrome.
The 2 ESP branded pickups are open coil style, with a black finish, and they are of good quality for this entry level guitar. Best on your dirty channel of course, where you'll get loads of power and sustain, but also good tonal range and plenty of chime on the clean channel.
It's all in all an excellent starter guitar, or a decent backup for gigging guitarists. Reliable, with an excellent set of pickups, good sounds, great looks and a very nice fingerboard and neck.
Good stuff from ESP guitars.
