Plenty of modern features for big sounds!
The Jim Root Telecaster (designed for the Slipknot/Stone Sour guitarist) will go to 11!
Special features include a Mahogany body, 12"-radius fingerboard, EMG pickups, 22 Dunlop 6100 jumbo frets, black locking tuners and hardware, and a single volume knob.
Available in a flat black finish with a Maple neck and fingerboard with a white pickguard.
Includes black tweed hardshell case with red interior.
Black is definitely the colour of choice for Jim Root. The front of the satin finished Maple headstock has the Fender logo and TELECASTER in black script, and a small black string tree keeping pressure on the 2 treble strings.
The back of the headstock has Jim Roots signature printed in black, the guitars serial number and country of origin and 6 in line black Chrome die-cast machine heads. These are locking tuners, the thumbwheel will clamp the string in place securely, giving excellent tuning stability - after all, this guitar is going to be played hard, bordering on the abused maybe!
The Maple neck has a C shaped profile, giving it an easy going, slim feel, great for a bit of shredding, fast runs and noodling.
The white top nut is 42mm wide, and the guitar has been well set-up prior to leaving the factory, action is about 2-3mm across the neck at the 12th fret.
The neck joins the satin black Mahogany, yes, that's right, it is, body at the 17th fret on the bass side, 21st on the treble, and it's held in place by a black neck plate with 4 black bolts, the heel joint here has a bit of extra chamfering, making it a little easier to get right up the high end of the fingerboard.
It's a heavy guitar. The back also has a good bit of rib-cage chamfering, unusual for a Telecaster, making it a good bit more comfortable against your body.
The front has a large single ply white scratchplate, fairly familiar in shape, but slightly altered as the Chrome control plate is not on this model.
Talking of the controls, not much to worry about really, a single master volume, and 3 way pickup selector only.
The bridge is also a straight forward affair, a black plate with 6 individual black die-cast saddles, all fully adjustable for string height and intonation purposes.
Onto the pickups, a pair of super-hot EMG's, a 60 at the neck and 81 at the bridge. The 60 is well known as being THE metal rhythm pickup, and the 81 is famous for razor sharp solo work.
But to think the Jim Root Telecaster is an out and out metal guitar would be quite wrong. It's a great playing instrument, and EMG's are very versatile pickups, it great for blues and all general rock duties, even pop and funk sound very very good.
Even if you're not a Jim Root, Slipknot or Stone Sour fan, you should consider this guitar, although an artist signature model, it's overly endorsed, and is such a great all rounder, very versatile, it's just an amazing guitar!
