Dave Navarro is only the third PRS artist to have both a Maryland-made and SE signature model (with Carlos Santana and Mark Tremonti coming before him).
The Jane’s Addiction guitarist’s SE model boasts a bevelled Maple top, Mahogany back, Maple neck with Rosewood fingerboard, and SE HFS and SE Vintage Bass pickups with a push-pull tone control and 3-way toggle.
His SE model also has his signature Jet White finish and gold hardware.
Navarro’s Maryland-made signature model has been one of PRS’s most popular artist guitars. The addition of the SE Dave Navarro instrument will make this model accessible to more fans and musicians.
“This is a way to make my guitar available to people who turn to music and art as a way of dealing with the world. It’s my act of gratitude to other musicians out there,” Navarro explains.
The headstock has a white face, with a large black truss rod cover, with PRS in white on the front, and SE DAVE NAVARRO in black on the front. The back, also white, has 2 rows of gold PRS branded machine heads.
The neck has an all over gloss bright white finish, whilst the beautiful Rosewood fingerboard is unbound, with the famous PRS bird inlays and superb fretwork all round.
The neck is PRS's 'thin/wide' profile, so it's easy going and not a massive handful, a great all rounder neck.
The SE Dave Navarro is a 24 fret electric guitar with a 25" scale length, good for downtuning, and with the tremolo bridge, it's a bit of a rocker! Nut width is 43mm, here with an action as supplied from the superb Korean Factory of just about 2mm across the board at the 12th.
The Maple neck joins the Mahogany body at the 23rd fret on both sides, the cutaway on the treble side has extra chamfering giving excellent access to all 24 frets.
The body of the PRS SE Navarro is all over white gloss, the back is flat and plain apart from 2 access plates to get to the back of the bridge and the electrics, whilst the top has a Maple cap, beautifully bevelled giving a very comfortable playing position.
The controls are simple enough, black speed knobs for the master volume and master tone, which incorporates a push/pull coil tap and a black 3 way pickup selector.
The pickups are a PRS designed HFS humbucker at the bridge and Vintage Bass at the neck. They're powerful, high output pickups which are designed for rock duties, breaking up early and at every given opportunity.
The coil tap brightens thing up marginally, giving a crisper sound. Pushed in though, the humbuckers have loads of depth and body for a full sound.
The guitar really plays beautifully!
A serious rock guitar, the PRS SE Dave Navarro has a great playing neck, decent hardware, great high gain pickups, and a smooth tremolo bridge.
A great addition to the ever growing PRS SE range.
