Here we have the rather stunning Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster, the lead man of Dinosaur Jr! This signature Jazzmaster is an extremely good quality, great sounding versatile electric guitar. With dual tone circuitry you can get a huge amount of tones from this beast that are ready for Rock, Jazz, Blues, Country or just about any style that you want to play!

With a tremolo bridge and great playability, this is one great value instrument by Squier that's ready to rock! Don't be put off by the Squier logo! This guitar is fantastic; so whether you want to use it around the home at lessons or even at gigs it's raring to go!

The pickups here are 2 Jazzmaster Single Coil Pickups which sound extremely smooth and full, just what you would expect from a Jazzmaster. What's great about this guitar though is the dual tone circuitry. You get a little black switch at the top of the guitar which changes the tone circuit.

So in the downward position you're using the cream volume and tone knobs which has that nice single coil twang, but when put into the upward position you're using the black metal rollers for tone and volume which makes the pickups sound more like humbuckers for a beefy sound ideal for fat Jazz chords and licks. If you want to add a load of drive to the sound then this is a good setting to have it on too.

Overall, this is a fantastic playing, looking and sounding guitar that comes in at extremely good value.

5Put A Smile On Your Face !

James kindly let me try this on a whim to see what the Jazzmaster is all about, and I left the shop with one (hadn't intended to buy a guitar at all !) I'm not really a Fender guy - or that's what I thought. This is the Fender for those who don't get on with Strat's or Tele's. Really comfortable, great pickups with no shrill treble, a tremolo that works really well. Surprised me what a rocking guitar this is - those J Mascis distorted tones, punk, driven valve amp - all leap out of this with definition and no mush. It is my favourite guitar, and I have a few, and it does pretty much all I want (maybe not metal or dropped C ). Sounds excellent clean; resonant and balanced - especially in the middle pickup setting. Give one a try, you'll get why fuzz fans like Dinosaur Jr and My Bloody Valentine use these, but also have some lovely clean P90 tones available. What's not to like ? OK, the gold pick guard is a love or hate thing, but that can be easily swapped out if you wish. There are more 'authentic' versions of the Jazzmaster in the range, but I bet they're not as much fun as this...

5Squier gets it so right!

This one was completely down to James at Guitarbitz, so I was ready to give him a hard time if it didn't work... But I can't : ( I knew I wanted a good but not too expensive Jaguar or Jazzmaster; the various Fender options drifted too far from the original blueprint - and my pocket - for me, so I thought I would give this one a go. It's Squier, so it's going to have its limitations, right? Well, I've not found them so far and I have trouble putting this guitar down! Fit and finish are both excellent, the tones available are wonderfully P90: warm, bass and mids, restrained treble - and I had a complete blast with a lightly distorted amp. I was really surprised by this guitar, in a good way, so Guitarbitz 35, me nil (yep, they have made me part with that much money, bounders). I'm already thinking about raiding the piggy bank for a second, so please form an orderly queue... Behind me!
