This Washburn double cutaway semi acoustic workhorse sports a Maple body, Chrome hardware with a stop tail piece and tune-o-matic style bridge. Primarily Maple, this hollowbody contains a center block for added sustain.

Great value too, a great playing entry level semi acoustic guitar from Washburn, who definately know a thing or 2 about making guitars.

The headstock on the HB30 is quite large, aiding balance against the large body of course, with a gloss black face and red or sunburst rear. The front has a groovy Washburn logo, and a diamondesque motif in plain white, with the black plastic truss rod cover have the model name also in white.

The rear of the headstock has the guitars serial number, and 2 rows of 3 a side chrome Grover machine heads, with their usual 18:1 ratio, not a bad start for an 'entry level' guitar.

The Maple neck feels quite comfortable, not fat at all, a broad C shape, with a gloss paint job to the back. The Rosewood fingerboard is bound in cream celluliod, the fretwork is finished to a high standard, and the board itself has a nice, tight grain and is good and smooth. Small white Abolone dots mark the usual fretboard positions.

The set neck joins the Maple body at the 19th fret on both sides (being a symetrical body shape of course). The body is bound to the front and back with the same cream plastic, which also features on the 2 'f' holes either side of the bridge. All very nicely done.

This version of the Washburn HB30 comes in a traditional Tobacco Sunburst, that shows the wavy grain of the Maple off nicely.

The front of the HB30 has a 3 way selector switch on the upper top bout and 2 volume, 2 tome controls on the lower end, these are Amber speed knobs. The bridge and tailpiece are in Chrome, and are of the familiar tune-o-matic style.

The 2 humbucking pickups on the HB30 are uncovered, in black. They are pretty hot as well, with the large open cavity of the body transfering plenty of tonal response through the sound block, in the middle of the guitar, directly into the pickups.

It's a versatile preformer as well, plenty of bright, jingle jangle on your clean channel, but turning on the gain gives nice, smooth distorted sounds. For an 'entry level' semi acoustic, the Washburn HB30 is a seriously good sounding guitar.

With a great brand name on the headstock, quality hardware and pickups, loads of vibe and plenty of value for money, if you're after a semi acoustic, you really need to consider this one.
