This Martin OMCX1KE electro acoustic guitar features a solid Sitka Spruce top and a rounded Venetian cutaway.
The back, sides and headplate are crafted from Hawaiian koa-pattern high pressure laminate (HPL) in an attractive honey tone.
From the Martin X Series of acoustic guitars, this model is equipped with Fishman electronics, this guitar is an affordable and warmly-toned musical instrument that excels equally on stage or in the studio.
The headstock of this 000 sized Martin is square and compact, the face is HPL Koa, a nice pale brown colour, with the familiar Martin & Co logo in gold script.
The back of the headstock, and the length of the neck, is where you can see Martins 'Stratabond', this is a laminate wood, and it's made of thin strips of wood, all a slightly different shade. This is Natural Stratabond, so is a pale looking creamy buff brown colour!
Here we have 2 rows of 3-a-side tuners, in Chrome with Martins logo nicely engraved into the back.
The satin finished Stratabond neck is Martins 'Modified Low Oval' shape it's a very comfortable, rounded shallow feeling C shape, with no tapering as we go up the neck towards the body. Nut width is 44mm, and the 12th fret is 56mm. String sacing at the bridge is 58mm.
The fingerboard on this OMCX1KE is 'Black Richlite', another man made wood from Martin, this is designed to emulate Ebony. It certainly looks like it, being just off black, and it definitely feels very good as well, it's very smooth and hard, but does have a light 'grainy' feel as well, very tight - so much like Ebony would be. Probably a lot cheaper than Ebony though - keeps the price down!
The fretwork is all finished to an excellent standard as you would expect from the worlds premier acoustic guitar manufacturer. There are no position markers although dots on the upper edges are present.
The neck joins the body at the 14th fret on the bass side and 16th on the treble side. Here we have a Venetian cutaway, notice how flat this is, and it gives access comfortably to the 18th fret. The heel joint around the back here has a useful strap button.
The back and sides of the Martin OMCX1 are made from HPL (High Pressure Laminate), with a Koa wood pattern, so basically, it's a laminated wood which is designed to look like Koa. It's a pale brown colour with a nice looking grain, some darker and lighter patches.
The back has a line of black binding, and the front is also bound in black. The top is solid Sitka Spruce, and again it's showing a beautiful grain, this is a guitar made with quality materials and techniques. The top edge here, where it is bound, is nicely chamfered away, giving a wonderful smooth feel to the all over satin body.
On the upper bout we have the Fishman Presys+ PreAmp, this has a built in tuner, 3 band EQ, brilliance, phase and a notch filter for controlling feedback in performance situations.
The front has a simple round soundhole rosette, black, white and red pin stripes, and Martins traditional square bridge, again made of Black Richlite, with 6 white bridge pins and a compensating saddle.
Playing the OMCX1 is very enjoyable, you could play it all night, it's a small, compact and comfortable guitar. The neck feels beautifully smooth, the body likewise, it looks stunning with a simple beauty.
Sounds are bright and vibrant, plenty of body on offer, and it resonates very well. Pickers will love the clarity of individual notes, strummers will love the brilliance projected with volume.
A lovely all round electro acoustic guitar from Martins Mexican made X Series. Stunning looks, brilliant sound and amazing value.
