A great value guitar from the kings of electro acoustics, Takamine.
The EG260C features a Spruce Top, Nato body, a Takamine pickup system with a built in digital tuner and a superb sound for free!
The headstock of the EG260C is slightly oversized, tapering to a curly point at the far end. The front has a satin finished Rosewood face, with the Takamine logo and G Series painted on. The rear of the headstock has 2 rows of unbranded 3-a-side Chrome die cast tuners.
The 3 piece Mahogany neck also has a very nice and smooth satin finish. A 'D' profile, it feels slim at the upper end, gently fattening up towards the guitars body.
The unbound fingerboard is Rosewood, with a nice mixture of light and dark grains, it's well finished for a guitar of this price. Abolone dots mark the usual positions, the 5th fret is a standard size, the dot on the 7th a bit smaller, and the rest are much smaller, a nice touch.
Fretwork is also very good, all nicely polished up, no rough edges to snag your fingers on here.
The guitar is well set up by the Takamine factory, action as supplied at the 12th fret is about 4mm on the bass side, 3mm on the treble. String spacing at the bridge is 51mm, and the nut width is a slim 43mm.
The neck joins the cutaway body at the 14th fret on the bass side, 15th fret on the treble side, the deep cutaway here gives good access to the 18th fret.
The EG260C has a Nato body, a budget Mahogany really, with a high gloss finish showing of the beautiful contrasting light and dark grain. The back has a thin centre join line of cream plastic.
The front and back of the guitar are fully bound, also in cream plastic. The top is a golden coloured natural Spruce, and the soundhole has a series of black and cream rings decorating it. The square, blocky bridge is Rosewood, with white plastic bridge pins.
The pickup on this model is Takamines own TP-4T, which features 1 3 band EQ, gain (volume) and a very useful built in fully chromatic tuner with a red LED display.
Sounds wise, very mellow, the rounded body dives good depth to the tone, not too much bass, not too much treble. Open chords sound natural without being overly in your face.
A very pleasant sounding guitar, the Takamine EG260C has been a best seller for many years, is great value and available in a range of colour options. Highly recommended.
