With a long history of way over 100 years, Gretsch are one of the original musical instrument brands, they started making drums and tambourines in Brooklyn in 1883!
Gretsch started making guitars in the 1920's, mainly for pro Jazz guitarists, and was a family owned business until the late 60's, when it was sold, subsequently loosing it's way and manufacturing ceased.
The 50's and 60's was their heyday though, with rock 'n' roll players using Gretsch guitars extensively.
The family bought it back though in the 80's and the brand started off again. Nowadays, Gretsch manufacturing and distribution is handled by Fender, and the quality of their 21st century guitars is excellent.
