1966 Fender Jaguar in 3 tone Sunburst in fantastic all original condition with period correct tweed hard case.
A great example of a first full Fender CBS year guitar in the shape of the at the time fairly newly released Jaguar model. The '66 year marks the first year that the Jaguar has fairly large design change with the addition of the full block inlays and white fingerboard binding, which certainly adds a touch of class to this popular offset model.
The guitar retains its original finish throughout and is in great shape. The top shows some fading to the red portion of the 3 tone finish though the back is super vibrant. The electronics and hardware remain all original though it is worth mentioning that currently the original bridge is in the case. The guitar arrived to us with the new bridge on despite the original bridge looking in good shape. The guitar played nicely with the new bridge that had been present on the guitar for a number of decades so I chose to leave it as is, however the next owner can easily swap this back with ease if desired.
The guitar even retains its original mute though the 50+ year old foam has seen better days! The original tremolo system works well and the arm is original to the guitar too. All of the electronics work as should with no crackling and the switches and pots are all original and untouched. The guitar has the nice spanky sound that you would expect from a Jag and it has all the nice classic sounds you could want.
The frets on this example are small and fairly low but show minimal wear and should give you one more light level is desired though certainly not needed at current point. The rosewood is nice and rosy and the binding is in great condition as it the nut. The whole neck is really nice to look at with the combination of Maple, Rosewood, white binding and block inlays.
The headstock shows some nice light checking with one ding to the fender logo, the machine heads and string tree are original and the guitar holds tuning very well. The guitar has some good weight to it though remains balanced at a weight of 9lb 9oz with the tremolo arm attached.
The case the guitar has is of vintage though certainly not Fender or original to the guitar. The case came with the instrument when it was purchased by the previous owner in 1990 and still remains with it, it is a good fit and of nice quality.
The guitar has had a full setup here and is playing great with a set of 11 gauge strings. The truss rod has plenty of life in it and turns well and the action is nice and low with clear note and no choking or buzzing.
