Rebel 5W Valve Amplifier 

The Rebel is a low-wattage, Class A valve amplifier designed for maximum signal integrity and touch sensitivity. Loosely derived from the classic Fender Champ topology, it features a single-ended output stage built around one 6V6 power valve, delivering approximately 5 watts RMS.

The preamp consists of a single ECC83 (12AX7), providing all voltage gain and signal conditioning. The simplified circuit topology and short signal path minimise phase loss and preserve the natural interaction between guitar, valves, and speaker.

Control layout is deliberately minimal, with one volume and one tone control, allowing the player to shape gain and frequency response without unnecessary circuit loading. As the volume is increased, the amplifier transitions smoothly from clean headroom into natural power-valve overdrive.

Despite its 5W rating, the Rebel produces significant sound pressure levels and is suitable for studio recording, home use, and low-volume rehearsals.

The amplifier is fitted with a 10” Jensen Alnico loudspeaker, chosen for its fast transient response, detailed high end, and controlled low-frequency breakup, complementing the dynamic behaviour of the single-ended output stage.

High and Low input options accommodate a wide range of pickup output levels, providing control over input gain and harmonic saturation.

The amplifier is hand-wired using high-quality, serviceable components, ensuring long-term reliability and ease of maintenance. The chassis is housed in a dovetailed pine cabinet constructed from reclaimed timber, finished with a medium oak stain and wax. Natural grain, knots, and variations in the wood make each cabinet visually unique.
